We’re just not sure where yet. Olivia and I have decided to take a break from our careers as medical professionals to pursue some adventure. The first stop is East Africa; the possibilities include Malawi, Tanzania, or Uganda. The Global Health Service Partnership is the program – the Peace Corps is the agency. Training in Washington DC starts July 11th.
Until then I’ll be finishing up residency at OHSU in family medicine and Olivia will be closing out her job as a midwife. It’s hard to imagine how different life will be in a mere 3 months but we’ve been planning, saving, and ready to go for quite some time now.
‘Cause work can wait.
How exciting indeed! We are doing something similar although on a different continent, not in our near thirties but rather Andrew in his fifties and me (nearly) with a 9 year old and 7 year old for 2 years. We pack in jobs, house, friendship, schools and the English countryside for Santa Cruz Boliva via CMS/SAMS. I will also blog and hope we can share in this somewhat parallel journey on different continents. We have great friends heavily involved in Help Hoima in Uganda; the Mustard Seed orphanage as well as a birthing hospital. If you do decide to travel there, please let me know! All the best for safe travels and great health. You are doing a beautiful thing. Lisa, Andrew, LIliana and Anayah xo
Hi Lisa! I just saw this, thanks so much for your well wishes and sweet thoughts. What an exciting adventure you are on as well! It will be fun to stay in touch and watch your story unfold. I have the fondest memories of when you and Andrew took me in on my way to Ghana and showed me London. It was such a huge gift to me to have such a welcoming home at that time, I’ll never forget it. Sending lots of love, Olivia
