Below is our Just Carrying On Miles and Points Tracker where we track our total miles and points usage and the money we’ve saved. We’ll keep it updated over time so check back from time to time to see how we’re doing.

Our hope is that this inspires you. Traveling doesn’t have to be cost-prohibitive. With a little time, energy, and organization, you can reap huge travel rewards too. Olivia and I have earned over 3 million miles and points since 2014 when we signed up for our first travel credit cards. For those who don’t know, miles and points can be redeemed for a lot of free and cheap travel. Check out our Just Carrying On – Miles and Points Beginner’s Guide if you want to learn more.
Notes
The tracker has two time-frame rows:
- All-Time begins with our first redemption to Paris in November 2014 and is continuous
- Around The World (from July 2017 through May 2018) is separated out because this trip was the reason we started chasing Miles and Points in the first place
The tracker has two dollars saved columns:
- Actual Dollars Saved is the amount of the cheapest flight or lodging we would have actually purchased, were we to have paid cash instead of using miles and points, at the time the redemption was booked. This number is more accurately what we have saved.
- Technical Dollars Saved is the cost of the exact same flight or hotel booking, were we to have paid cash instead of using miles and points, at the time the redemption was booked. This number gives a sense of the luxury of our redemptions, as redemptions are often far nicer than anything we’d have paid in cash.
